Persia updates, and a few others

     Hi everyone,

We wanted to update you on Persia one more time, since it’s coming next week!

Our goal when we started Persians many months ago was to give experienced players access to higher level content, and allow advanced players to jump right into the thick of things, including exploring Argos, gathering higher level gear, conquering Crete, and getting to Cyprus quicker, among other things.

    • Persia starts immediately at level 20 with access to the entire tech tree, and pre-equipped with gear for all units.
    • This is special Gear that cannot be traded; it gives players a good starting suite of Gear right out of the gate.
    • Also, because Persian players begin at level 20, they will be able to quickly begin acquiring higher level rewards, through Argos, Crete, Cyprus, and Sparta.
    • We also give players a few Advisors as you do the first few quests, and as always, some starting special rewards.
    • Access to a full new tech tree and unit roster that includes special units like:

o The Immortal, effective against infantry at short range but can also shoot arrows from afar.
o The Sparabara, a shielded infantry unit capable of withstanding ranged weaponry.
o The War Wagon, an impressive war machine able to destroy enemies with volleys of arrows.
o Persians also have access to several toggle techs from their War Academy.  These technologies have benefits and drawbacks and can be turned on and off in the midst of battle.
o New to the Persians is the Aid Tent. This new upgrade allows the storehouse to heal nearby units helping the Persians protect villagers and maintain map control over their opponents

    • Persian players begin with access to unranked and ranked PvP.
    • Persia is a great addition to complement your current Greek and Egyptian civilizations. By owning more than 1 civilization, you will also receive an extra unit, the Golden Hippikon.
    • Persia will be on sale for a limited time starting next week!

So, we have a really fun new Civ that we think players will enjoy.   With all the new art, units, tech tree, and advisors, players will have something very different and new to dive into.

We are starting to create new videos as well, so we’ll have a video for you to check out that describes the Persians, as well as a free demo quest that shows some of the coolest aspects of Persia.

We wanted to clarify one thing: Persia won’t have a story campaign, since our goal was to get players access to high level content quickly.  We’d love to create some Persian story content later, since that culture has an amazing history, but for this launch, we wanted to focus on a way to accelerate advanced players into gameplay.

We have created new quests for Persia in which you can gear up and find materials fairly quickly. Since these quests are repeatables, players can try out all of their units and experiment with different tech tree setups and in-game strategies as they like.

We are also planning on a significant sale and a new bundle soon for Persia.  Persia should be out October 18th.

As always, we are excited to share this new content with you, and remember, we’re working on a host of other things for November and December, like Champion mode, launcher updates, differential patching (this means smaller, incremental patches!), and other things.  We’ll talk about those details more next week.

    Have a great weekend!
    Ian

    "this means smaller, incremental patches!"

I seem to remember a dev saying that this would result in slowing patching overall...

But hey! I'm sure it'll be great!

He was talking about the patching method. Not the number of patches per month. We were discussing this in this thread:

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

The demo sounds like a nice addition for people who want to experiance the Persians themselves before deciding to buy the civilization pack

P.S: Will the Co-op lag be fixed when Persians come out? It's hard to have fun in co-op if the AI enemy demolishes both player town centers if units take 1-2 seconds to respond to a command. Also, will the skirmish AI allies be much mmore aggresive and helpful (tribute resources, send troops to help their allies if they're attacked) unlike in the quest "Egyptian Alliance" because the Egyptian Army only helps by stalling the enemy, and showing the player what the Sea People are building.

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

One thing I want to point out about them is that they would probably NEVER help the Greeks in anyway, due to the Greco-Persian War (Which led to the Polapunesus War between Athens and Sparta) so Argos would seem a bit unreasonable for them, Cyprus would be okay, the description said that the Greeks, Egyptians, Persians, and Assyrians influenced the culture of Cyprus.

Ian why must you announce something awesome and then announce something that really hurts the enthusiasm at the same time?

Persia will be on sale for a limited time starting next week!

Why in the world would you sell it for a limited time? This is an "evergreen" game that should grow, not shrink.

I grew to appreciate the reasons for having Pro Civs but I have no plans to buy one anytime soon. Do you not want to sell me one eventually? Do I need to hurry up and buy Crete before you take that offline too? I just don't get it! I mean, why shouldn't I be able to buy Persia even 2 years from now? This isn't the Disney vault and I hope you're not thinking about Civs that way.

He meant that it won't cost as much for a while, then after that, you pay $19.99 after that.

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

Alright, I signed in just to ask this. As you can see, I've never posted before. :)

"• Persia will be on sale for a limited time starting next week!"

Could you explain the whole "limited time" bit? It seems to imply that if we don't buy Persia within a certain time frame (say, a year), we would never be able to buy them again. Am I understanding this correctly, or am I misreading it? That'd kinda suck if it were true.

Thank you for even considering a reply, great game you guys got here.

EDIT: Added a line or two. :)

Again, Ian meant that it will not cost as much for a while then it costs $19.99 after the sale.

Cool I will get in quick to save some coin xD

Is there going to be cataphract cavalry available for Persia?  I recall seeing some artwork that included cavalry with chain mail that I thought were cataphracts.

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

Hmmmm... Intriguing... Persia on sale? I wonder how much of a discount it is? And the bundles... I like bundles... :-) It depends on what the bundle is of course.

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

There's a difference between "on sale" and "for sale". On sale means for sale for cheaper than usual. After that, it will still be for sale, just at full price.

I'm mainly a PVE player, which obviously isn't Persia's primary audience, but I'm strongly considering getting Persia regardless. Especially since it'll be on sale! But of course, I'll have to play the demo and see how big the discount is before I make a final decision. I'm excited.

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

i feel like your "sale" is gonna be a bundle lol that includes crete... its not gonna help anyone... because most people have one or both of the civs.... and i recall u saying there are no upgrades in bundles... (if you bought greek , u cant buy the launch bundle for a cheaper price than everyone else just because u have greek already...) so yea theres no other new content i can see u offering that can be included in a bundle... and this civ has no free to play content (which i dont understand... all u would have to do is put an 'X' on all the rare and epic content like you did with greek and egyptian... ) .... and i do remember a promise saying ALL civs would be free... not "demo" lol free... your killin me gpg... your really killin me..

Re: Persia updates, and a few others

I just want to clarify so there is no confusion: the Persian's will be "on sale" meaning they will be discounted when they first come out. They will still be for sale after the promotion expires.  We want to give the early adopters an opportunity to get their hands on them at a reduced price.
